Hong Kong celebrated 2016 with a massive fireworks display over Victoria Harbor.

The them of the display was "love and joy," which means that plenty of reds and pinks flashed across the water.

In South Korea, a couple took a selfie while sharing a midnight kiss. They're at the Imjingak Peace Park in Paju.

Near the border of North Korea outside of Seoul, there was a huge fireworks display.

The Taipei 101 tower in Taiwan shot fireworks from the building as the clock struck midnight .

The entire building appeared to be ablaze in celebration.

Instead of fireworks, the city of Tokyo released thousands of helium balloons near the Tokyo Tower.

Though the scene by the tower was crowded, many Tokyo residents actually returned to their hometowns for the new year. The holiday is very family-oriented in east Asia.

In Australia, more than a million people packed around the Opera House for the celebration.

The Sydney Harbor bridge was lit up with fireworks to ring in the new year.

Much like in Times Square, people gather in the Sydney Harbor during the day to get a good view of the fireworks.

Red fireworks cascaded off the bridge like a waterfall while yellow flares erupted through the bridge. To complete the effect, the landmark was also transformed into a giant Aboriginal flag.

At one point, the Harbour and the bridge was lit up with purple lights as fireworks filled the night sky above the city of Sydney

The end of the show meant a giant waterfall of fireworks rained off the bridge, looking like a waterfall of fire.

In Melbourne, Australia, Mariah Carey gave an exclusive performance to celebrate the new year.

Outside of the show, people gathered in the heat to watch 11 tons of fireworks light up the entire sky.

Auckland, New Zealand residents were treated to fireworks, as well as a giant laser show.
